I frequently see students confused by abstract instructions on writing paragraphs. They are instructed to use details and examples, yet they are not taught what details are, what examples are and that details and examples are not the same thing. They end up filling their paragraphs with random or repetitive sentences, somewhat related to the topic. They lose marks for not using enough details, and nothing changes. I offer a simple paragraph writing strategy that helps my elementary school students succeed with writing paragraphs.
