When a friend tells you that his tutor helped him score perfect on the recent math test, you start to wonder, does tutoring really help? Well, it’s evident that tutoring is one of the most important activities to take part in outside of school. Our partners had no tutoring, in the 20th century, the students had to learn everything themselves, so consider it a modern privilege. Tutoring gives you an advantage for the future, it helps navigate outdated school curriculum, as well as provides extra help for those who struggle academically. Tutoring in important subjects such as Math, English and Science benefits anyone regardless of their grade or knowledge. Anyone can use some extra help whether you want to admit it or not.
First of all, tutoring is beneficial for your future. Not only in terms of academic success, but also for networking. Your tutor could be a great reference for your resume. They would be more than happy to help with creating it and interviewing you during your free time. Your tutor can also supply you with great resources, such as Litcharts or Sparknotes, two great websites, as well as books and papers to enhance learning. Tutoring also improves your communication and people skills, as you are 1-on-1 with a person you’ve probably never met before discussing subject specific material. Another way it might help is during your time in university, tutoring will make sure you’ve understood the concepts of the program. Your tutor can introduce you to his or her former students who are in the same program as you, and might be able to help you with your learning. You can also use the skills the tutor taught to make some extra cash by tutoring younger kids in your spare time. Tutoring could be a great tool in your future in a few different ways.
In high school, unless you take an AP course, the curriculum won’t teach you everything you need for your career of choice. With a tutor, you have the opportunity to go more in-depth with your learning. The tutor has the time to explain and prepare you for the future. Also, since it’s a 1-on-1 environment, the teacher won’t have 30 other students to deal with, focusing on your needs and academics. Take science, for example. There are many different sciences out there, and maybe you want to develop a career out of one of them. In high school, only chemistry, biology and physics are taught. What about Biomedical engineering? Architecture? Even though these topics fall into one of the big three, your tutor can help you touch upon the specifics of what you want to pursue. In addition, at school you might have a teacher who doesn’t teach their strong subject. There might be a shortage. The tutor can help with understanding the curriculum and expectations. Maybe if a few friends feel the same way about the subject, the tutor wouldn’t mind doing a group session for an added fee!
The last and most important point is that the tutor is there for you. He or she has come to help you to succeed in your academic career. If you’re behind or struggling with a particular subject, tutors can help by holding lessons and asking questions based on your personal needs. They provide a personalized 1-on-1 lesson for a specific time period during which they will try their best to help you with any problems or obstacles. If the teacher at school can’t provide sufficient help, hire a tutor! The student’s performance will rise by a lot! Studies show that grades improve by 30% when a tutor is hired to help with academic issues. There are many different tutors to choose from, no matter what subject. If a student is struggling with math, a tutor can see what is going wrong and can help turn the student in the right direction. For example, a student is averaging a 60% in English class. He wants to see this grade go up, but does not know what to do. His parents hire a tutor, and he immediately sees what the student’s problem is. The tutor does his job, and the kid brings back an 85% on the next assignment. This is just one example of how a tutor can help boost your grades.
To conclude, the list of pros far outweighs the cons if you are thinking about getting a tutor. It will benefit you greatly if you do have one. He or she will help you achieve the mark you want in a particular class. Even though there is a fee, it is worth the investment if the subject you are being tutored on is something you want to study in the future. Remember that friend of yours who struggled in math? Well, he’s now in the university of his dreams, pursuing a career in medical sciences. All thanks to his tutor, who helped him reach this goal. A tutor can really be the helping hand in any subject where you feel like you need a little boost!
